  • MDWK: Don’t Give the Enemy a Seat

Pastor Danny will begin a new midweek series that is based on a book by best-selling author, Louie Giglio, called “Don’t Give the Enemy a Seat at Your Table.”

We’ve all been in circumstances that cause our minds to spin with thoughts that are unproductive, destructive, and harmful. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed and wonder why we keep falling into the same thought patterns. We need to recognize these thoughts are not from God, but from an enemy lurking who wants to seize every opportunity to lie his way into our minds.

This study will unpack Psalm 23 and offer insight into how to overcome the enemy’s lies and find peace and spiritual security in any circumstance or situation.

    • Cancel the lies that will wreck your life and take the empowering steps to live fully alive in Christ

    • Restore peace and rest in your life by taking authority over your thoughts

    • Break free from the endless cycle of destructive thinking and recapture your emotions

    • Embrace the true purpose behind your journey through challenging circumstances

You can find freedom from the battles in your mind if you allow Jesus, the Good Shepherd, to lead the battle. Learn how to find encouragement, hope, and strength no matter what valleys you face.

The six-session series will begin on Wednesday, October 16 and conclude on Wednesday, December 6. The group will not meet on October 30 and November 20.

    Scripture Memory

Casting all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you.

    1 Peter 5.7

This is the confidence which we have before Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.

    1 John 5.14

    Reflection

Who in your office or at your worksite is barely hanging on by a thread? Make it your business to know. That’s what being a Christian is all about! There are people all around you who are hurting. Behind their smile, they’re dying under the weight of some hurt or burden. God wants you to be the one to lift them up and show them his love.

  • Develop Strong Convictions

This post is designed to help those participating in a BSFL study at First Baptist Corsicana. Each week you can review and reflect on the lesson. Aimee Kasprzyk and Jeff Fitzhugh jointly teach the class. If you are in our area, we invite you to join us on Sunday mornings at 9:45am.

This week we begin a six-session unit. The unit is called Staying True in a World Far from God. The lessons for this unit will come out of the book of Daniel. You can read the passage in Daniel 1.

Daniel arrived in 605 BC as part of King Nebuchadnezzar’s first deportation of Jewish citizens. He wrote to encourage believers of his own generation and future generations. Read and review this passage several times and reflect on parts that catch your attention.

What are some ways we might feel like strangers in this world?

Here are some principles we might pick up from the passage:

    • Believers can live with integrity even when tempted to compromise.
    • There will be times when we must choose between pleasing God and pleasing men. In such times, we should choose to serve God rather than men.
    • Holiness does not happen by chance. Sanctification is God’s work brought about in and through men and women who, in dependence on His Spirit, diligently strive to be faithful disciples of Jesus Christ.

But Daniel resolved that he would not defile himself with the king’s food, or with the wine that he drank.

    Daniel 1:8

    Application

    • In your journey of holiness what are some things you have resolved?
    • Where might we be challenged to compromise on our convictions?
    • How can we encourage each other to remain faithful?
    • How did God reward the faithfulness of Daniel and his friends?
  • Abigail: Woman of Wisdom

This post is designed to help those participating in a BSFL study at First Baptist Corsicana. Each week you can review and reflect on the lesson. Aimee Kasprzyk and Jeff Fitzhugh jointly teach the class. If you are in our area, we invite you to join us on Sunday mornings at 9:45am.

This week we have a short, single-session lesson. This lesson tells the story of Abigail, a woman who showed great wisdom and stepped in to a bad situation to keep things from getting worse. You can read the passage in 1 Samuel 25. Read and review this passage several times and reflect on parts that catch your attention.

What are some things that you notice about David, Nabal and Abigail? Who is seeking God’s direction and who is looking out for themselves?

Here are some principles we might pick up from the passage:

    • We want to be the kind of person that others trust to do what is right. When we show wisdom and discernment, they will come to us in times of need.
    • We should take the initiative to share godly wisdom, but pray first. How you share wisdom is as important as what you share.
    • We should be willing to praise God when someone keeps us from sin by rebuke or correction. This is not the natural response to correction.

Everyone should look not to his own interests, but rather to the interests of others.

    Philippians 2:4

    Application

    • Start a list. Think of ways you might pray for others.
    • Ask God how you might share wisdom. Be ready when He presents an opportunity.
    • Wisdom and discernment are connected to character. Start one good habit to help you develop godly character.
  • Set Apart for a Journey

This post is designed to help those participating in a BSFL study at First Baptist Corsicana. Each week you can review and reflect on the lesson. Aimee Kasprzyk and Jeff Fitzhugh jointly teach the class. If you are in our area, we invite you to join us on Sunday mornings at 9:45am.

This past week we concluded the fifth session in the Set Apart unit. Here’s a review of what we’ve studied over the last several weeks.

Now we look at Session 6: Set Apart for a Journey (Philippians 3:10-21). Read and review this passage several times and reflect on parts that catch your attention.

Leading up to this passage, Paul says that everything else in his life is loss when compared to knowing Jesus Christ. He wants to be found in Christ as having a righteousness that comes from faith, not from following the law.

It was important for Paul to know Jesus Christ. He saw this as his goal for life. In Philippians 3:10, Paul shared three things that he wanted to know. What were the three things?

that I may know Him, and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His sufferings

    Philippians 3.10
    • He wanted to know Christ, not just about Christ.
    • He wanted to know God’s resurrection power.
    • He wanted to know (share) in the sufferings of Christ.

Reflect on these things. Knowing Christ should have a practical effect on your daily life. Also, if you want to live a holy life, you can’t do it in your own power. You need God’s resurrection power. If you share in Christ’s suffering it will bring you closer to Him. When we go through trying times with others, those experiences bring us closer together.

    Scripture Memory

Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.

    1 Corinthians 15:58 (NASB)

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.

    Matthew 5:6

    Reflection

God’s going to bless anybody who’s persecuted because they live for him. We should notice that we don’t get rewarded for being rude or obnoxious. If we live self-righteous lives when we get persecuted, we’re not martyrs. We’re just jerks. Be like Jesus and get rewarded.

    Scripture Memory

Do not love the world nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world.

    1 John 2:15-16 (NASB)

Blessed are the gentle, for they shall inherit the earth.

    Matthew 5:5 (NASB)

    Reflection

God’s going to bless anybody who’s persecuted because they live for him. Notice that you don’t get rewarded for being rude or obnoxious. If you live a self-righteous life when you get persecuted, you’re not a martyr. You’re just a jerk. You don’t get rewarded for that. You get rewarded for being like Jesus.

    Hebrews 11:6 (NASB)

    Reflection

We all need what God has to offer, but many of us look for it in all the wrong places. How many of us expect our needs to be met by careers, bank accounts, romantic relationships, friendships, children, or family? That’s not it. God is the source of all the goodness in our lives. Focus on God and let Him provide your needs this week.
